David Huff labors as Indianapolis breezes past Columbus: Minor league report

Matt Packer works six shutout innings as Akron blanks Erie at Canal Park.

MINOR-LEAGUE REPORT

AAA Columbus Clippers

Indians 8, Clippers 0: It was a rough Saturday for David Huff (7-2). The lefty who pitched for Cleveland earlier this season gave up eight runs, all earned, and nine hits in just four innings as Columbus lost at home to Indianapolis. He also served up a gopher ball.

AA Akron Aeros

Aeros 9, SeaWolves 0: Jerad Head had a double and four RBI as Akron blanked Erie (Pa.) in an Eastern League game at Canal Park. Matt Packer (1-2) pitched six shutout innings for Akron.

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Indians 5, Red Sox 3: Jeremie Tice slugged his fourth home run in the first and Kinston (N.C.) defeated visiting Salem (Va.). Joseph Gardner (12-5) pitched five scoreless innings, striking out five, to pick up the win.

A Lake County Captains

Captains 2, Silver Hawks 1: Vidal Nuno (6-7) held South Bend (Ind.) to one run in seven innings as Lake County won a Midwest League game at Classic Park in Eastlake. Takafumi Nakamura shut down the Silver Hawks the final two innings to notch his first save.

Notes: Captains center fielder Delvi Cid has 68 stolen bases after thefts of second and third base Saturday. He was also thrown out trying to steal second. For the night, Cid was 1-for-4 with a triple and RBI.

A Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Doubledays 4, Scrappers 1: Mahoning Valley outhit Auburn (N.Y.), 13-5, but still managed to lose the game. Cole Cook (0-2) yielded two unearned runs in four innings.

Independent Lake Erie Crushers

Crushers 3, Kings 2: Lee Huggins blasted a first-inning homer and Lake Erie won a Frontier League game at Kalamazoo, Mich. Alberto Rolon (3-4) pitched 61/3 scoreless innings and fanned a career-high eight.
