Car insurance firm LV= bucks the complaints trend

After an accident, they were helpful, pleasant and speedy

Five weeks ago, my daughter was involved in a car accident. Her insurer, Liverpool Victoria (LV=) were first class throughout, from collection of the car to assessment to final settlement.

Their approach was helpful, pleasant, speedy, and personal, and throughout their approach helped mitigate what was a very upsetting incident for her. CA, Chorley

We are seeing a lot of complaints about car insurance so it is nice to report a happy customer for a change. So well done to LV= for bucking the trend.

We welcome letters but cannot answer individually. Email us at consumer.champions@guardian.co.uk or write to Brignall & King, Money, the Guardian, 90 York Way, London N1 9GU. Please include a daytime phone number

The Right Word: Praying for Chris Christie to run | Sadhbh Walshe

The talk hosts are excited about Chris Christie as a possible GOP presidential runner. But Glenn Beck has other worrries

Rush Limbaugh

Conservatives are ecstatic at the prospect that Governor Chris Christie might enter the presidential race, despite theNew Jerseypolitician's repeated assertions that he has no intention of doing so. While he is not everyone's candidate of choice ? Bill O'Reilly thinks he shouldn't run because he hasn't been in his current job for long enough ? Rush Limbaugh is quick to explain that the enthusiasm for Christie's phantom candidacy has nothing to do with unhappiness with the Republican field but just that they need to find someone, anyone, who can defeat President Obama (listen to clip).

This whole notion that the field is weak, in other words, is not something that the voting public thinks. The reaction that some people are having to Christie is, "Oh, God, please get in," and then that does indicate an unhappiness with everybody else that's in the field. It boils down, I think, to people wanting somebody they think can win, and it boils down to people wanting somebody that talks tough, and talks straight, from the gut.

Up until the last two primary debates, many conservatives thought they had their straight-talking, straight-shooting candidate: Rick Perry. But since Perry's disappointing debate performance, where hefailed to capitalise on his positives (the record number of executions and the record number of low-wage jobs without benefits he gave Texas), and instead, allowed his negatives (a willingness to afford the children of undocumented immigrants an education and to vaccinate girls against cervical cancer) to get the better of him, it is understandable that many Republicans would be literally begging Christie to step in and fill the void. It remains to be seen if Christie can pass the conservative litmus test, however ? already, Limbaugh fears there might be too much of the John McCain in him. On the other hand, if he does, it may well work against him with the Republican establishment.

The columnists, the magazine directors, editors, publishers, whatever, they are reaching and searching for a counter to the conservatives. They don't want Herman Cain getting the nomination; they don't want Perry getting the nomination; they don't want Bachmann getting the nomination. The Republican establishment does not want a conservative getting the nomination. If Chris Christie can come along, catch fire, see to it that Palin, Bachmann ? Palin not in, she might get in, who knows, doubt it, but still too soon to say ? if they can co-opt any conservative getting the nomination, they will do it.

Limbaugh is not ready to write Christie off just yet, though, despite the chance that he might occasionally cooperate with Democrats if elected, because even he concedes that finding a candidate capable of defeating Obama must be the top priority.

Sean Hannity

Sean Hannity would also like Christie to enter the race, but he is still optimistic about the current line-up, and believes a strong contender may yet emerge from the so called "second tier" (watch clip). He interviewed one of these second-tier candidates, Rick Santorum, earlier this week. He did not mention Santorum's controversial position that sexual activity has no place in the military, nor the booing of the gay soldier which he did not hear, and rather focused on his "fiery exchange" with Rick Perry, who called him "heartless" for objecting to the education of children of undocumented immigrants.

Senator, I had Governor Perry on my radio show on Friday and I asked him about your exchange. And his answer to me was, "Well, wait a minute. You're saying that it's OK for the children of illegal immigrants to go, and the only area of difference is on the subsidy side. In other words, the in-state tuition break that they get. So, for example, the children of illegals: it's OK with you to go to public schools, universities?"

Santorum clarified his position on the issue, which is that he has no objection to children from other countries going to American schools and universities, and pointed out that this is actually common practice, but he just doesn't want them getting the in-state tuition break. As long as the children are charged the higher rate that foreigners and out-of-state pupils typically pay, he has no problem with them going to school. Hannity still didn't like the idea of children whose parents entered the country illegally being given access to education.

All right. But if they're here illegally. In other words, I think there's two issues here. And I think you made your point on whether or not they get in-state tuition breaks. There's a clear difference between you (and Perry). What I'm trying to ascertain here: is there a difference if children or people are in this country illegally ? should they be allowed to go to American schools even though they're in the country illegally?

Santorum confirmed that he would still allow the children to go to school, as long as they paid the higher tuition rate and added that there was no reason for Governor Perry to go around calling anyone heartless who adopts such a reasonable position.

Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck is far too concerned with what is going down in 2011 to worry about what 2012 may bring, namely that the "riots in the streets" have finally spread from places like Egypt and Greece to American soil in the form of the Occupy Wall Street protests (view clip).

Oddly enough, even though Beck shares some of the protesters' frustrations with unregulated capitalism ? he has spoken at length about how badly the banks have behaved and how unfair it is that taxpayers should have to pay for their "deliberate" mistakes ? he does not support the protests. This is because he thinks the protesters (aka the "hippies") are actually themselves responsible for causing the behavior that led to the financial crisis which they are now decrying.

Remember all those banks and why they made loans to people they shouldn't have made loans to? Why did they make those loans? Why did they do that? They made those loans because they were afraid. Because the left came out and said, "You are a racist!" And then, the government ? like Barney Frank ? came and said, "You know what, I happen to agree with them and we're not going to, we can't let you be racist like this; you better write those loans that people aren't qualified for." So they were afraid and they did nothing. The banks are culpable, but no less than those who told them to write the loans in the first place!

So Beck's theory is that as the hippies are part of "the left" and people on the left allegedly gave the banks a hard time back in the day for not giving loans to minorities, they (the left) are responsible for the subprime mortgage crisis. The left are the hippies and the labor unions, and they are in league with the politicians (that is, President Obama), who are being manipulated by the billionaire investor George Soros, who wants to bring about an end to capitalism. Beck has many grievances against Soros, but his most recent one is his fear that he's not paying high-enough taxes.

Does Obama ? do you think Obama has checked? 'Cos I guarantee you, that George Soros is paying a lower rate than Warren Buffet's secretary. I'm just saying ? and it wouldn't match Obama's rhetoric. The politician's rhetoric doesn't match the rhetoric of the unions, and the unions don't match the hippies and the hippies don't match Soros and Soros, Wall Street, does it? Or does it?

One more thing here on Soros. How does a guy who says things would be unimaginable without bailouts get in bed with a guy [Obama] who won't speak out about the bank protest. If he [Obama] is so concerned about this guy [Soros], so concerned about it, why won't this guy [Obama] who's in bed with this guy [Soros], both saying they're concerned about these guys [Wall Street] speak out against these guys [the hippies] or these guys [the unions] who are really only hurting you.

The "you" Beck is referring to are the subscribers to his program, who he wants to ensure are not being manipulated by liars in the media to act against their own interests.

Frank Skinner's show to change the tune for Absolute Radio

Absolute presenter's Saturday show will also air on four digital stations, with different music for each but the same links

Frank Skinner's Absolute Radio show is to be broadcast across its four-strong digital network ? but with different music on each station.

Skinner's Saturday morning show between 8am and 10am will be broadcast an hour later on Absolute 80s, Absolute Radio 90s, Absolute Radio 00s and Absolute Classic Rock.

The programme will be re-edited so that most of the words remain the same but the tunes will change depending on which station you listen to. So saying "I really like Frank Skinner but I just don't like the music" will no longer be an excuse for not tuning in. At least, that's what Absolute Radio bosses hope.

Skinner joined Absolute Radio in 2009. The show, which also features Emily Dean and Alun Cochrane, won a gold award for best entertainment programme at this year's Sonys.

The podcast of the Saturday show, along with a midweek "not the weekend" offering, has been downloaded more than 8 million times so far in 2011.

The four digital stations have a combined audience of nearly 2 million listeners, more than the 1.65 million people who listened to the main Absolute Radio station in the second quarter of this year.

Absolute 80s is its most popular spin-off station, with 894,000 listeners.

Absolute Radio's owners, the Times of India Group, gave the station its long-term backing earlier this week.

It had previously considered a sale as part of a review of the business, attracting interest from TalkSport owner UTV Media and Richard Branson's Virgin.

The Frank Skinner Show will debut across the Absolute network this Saturday.

1000 Syrian refugees in Jordan as Erdogan expects Assad downfall

The deputy representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Arafat Jamal, said the number of Syrian refugees in Jordan reached some 1000. They are now residing in the areas of "Ramtha" and "Mufraq", close to the border with Syria.

Jamal told a Jordanian newspaper on "Monday" that the flow of the Syrians to Jordan began slowly last March, pointing out that some entered the border legally while others entered the kingdom illegally.

SNCF is delaying missed flight payout

My train was late so I missed my easyJet flight from Nice and had to pay 607 for a BA flight. Now the French railways are delaying my insurance claim

For my journey home from France I had planned to take a bus to Toulon, the TGV train to Nice, and a bus to the airport with two hours to spare for my easyJet flight to Edinburgh. The first bus never turned up and the next arrived too late to catch the train. The following train was 40 minutes late so I caught a slow train and got to the easyJet gate 10 minutes after it closed. I took a BA flight costing 607.

My insurer, Flexicover, said it would consider a claim for missed departure if I provided written confirmation that the bus and train had both been delayed. The bus company replied the following day but SNCF told me to contact Rail Europe in the UK. Rail Europe said, as I hadn't booked through them, I would have to pay them 25 to approach SNCF, an offer I declined. DM-S, Glasgow

You then changed your mind and agreed to pay Rail Europe but learned that, since SNCF had upgraded its mail-handling software, correspondence between the two companies was now taking four months.

Rail Europe promised me it would chase SNCF. I also asked Axa, which provides the Flexicover insurance, whether it would process your claim without waiting for SNCF and it agreed to look at it. Before it could decide, the SNCF confirmation turned up. But then Axa wanted written confirmation that you had not taken the easyJet flight. Fortunately easyJet replied immediately and, three weeks later, Axa sent 607 to cover the BA flight.

Review: Shirley; The Marvellous Mrs Beeton

Bassey's biopic was all about sparkly dresses and swoopy songs, but very little in the way of substance

'When you look in the mirror who do you see?" Eliza Bassey asks her daughter Shirley. "Someone I don't know, I mean who's that?" says Shirley, indicating the person who looks exactly like her in the dressing-table mirror. "That's Shirley Bassey, that is," says mum, explaining the basics of what happens when photons hit a smooth reflective surface. How Stuff Works, with the Basseys? Actually Shirley (BBC2).

There have been some lovely BBC biopics recently ? on Hattie Jacques, Eric and Ernie, Kenneth Williams and others. After which this is a bit of a disappointment. No fault of Ruth Negga, who's memorable in the title role ? sultry, captivating, gorgeous, silky as silk one minute, fiery as fire the next. Convincingly Welsh too, when she's not trying to be all posh, or international. Cardiff via St John's Wood and Hollywood. A fine performance.

So it must be everyone else's fault. It's not bad, it's just not brilliant. We start off in Cardiff ? Tiger Bay and Splott (love that name, he says, metrocentrically and slightly patronisingly). I can't help thinking this is the most interesting part of the Shirley Bassey story: growing up in a big mixed-raced family in Cardiff in the 40s. We see her dad being carted off by the police, her mum having to pile everything into a pram and move house, neighbours looking on with disapproval and prejudice. Young Shirley flexes her vocal chords, in the bedroom, then in the pub, singing for chips. We meet Bo Bo, a new stepdad, who looks like he's going to become a character ... But he doesn't, because we're straight outta Splott, and up to London, barely 10 minutes in.

Obviously you can't do the whole biography in a 70-minute film. But I'm not sure the right pages have been torn out. Here's a baby suddenly, where did that come from? Race is hardly touched on, apart from when Shirley doesn't get a part in Oliver, because she's "coloured". Which seems an omission, especially as the film is supposed to be part of BBC2's Mixed Race season. The grit is swept under the carpet; it's all about the glitz. And then the whole back of the book seems to have been ripped right off; it ends so suddenly that I actually checked the schedules to see if there was another part to come.

What we're left with is the early part of Bassey's career, marriage to Kenneth Hume (who turns out to be a "pansy"), a bit of bickering with her manager, some lovely sparkly dresses and the blasting-out of a few big swoopy numbers ? Stormy [pause] wea ? [big swoop downwards] ther. Quite nice if you like that kind of thing.

Oh, there's an awful lot of staring in the dressing room mirror. "This is Shirley Bassey!" she says, looking at herself backstage somewhere. Well done, Shirley, now you're getting the hang. It's pretty basic physics actually.

Mrs Beeton! The Secret World of. That was another good fairly recent BBC biopic, with Anna Madeley playing Mrs B, breathing life into the big, fat cook book your mum probably has, with pages missing (again!) and splattered with ancient gravies. To which The Marvellous Mrs Beeton, with Sophie Dahl (BBC2) doesn't add an awful lot. Ms D is interested in the same things as were explored in the earlier film ? not just the scones and the pies but the entrepreneurial spirit, the lack of recognition, the injustice, the tragedy, the syphilis. And she gets involved, making jam with another pretty blonde woman, hosting dinner parties, but also digging about in her hero's life. She comes up with a theory about what motivated Mrs Beeton; that it was the chaos of her childhood, 20 siblings, that led her to go in pursuit of order, lists, recipes, household management. Quite plausible.

There's not an awful lot to get a grasp of visually though, we can't just stare into Sophie Dahl's enormous owly eyes for an hour. The camera is lost, doesn't know where to look. It pans down a fountain, up Nelson's column. Why? Because they're outside the National Portrait Gallery, where there's a picture of Mrs Beeton. She lived in London, so we go down to the Thames, look at boats, seagulls, St Paul's Cathedral ... Roll up, for Sophie Dahl's Original Mrs Beeton Open Top Big Red Bus Tour.

BEIRUT: Lebanese Internet will press ahead with plans to release a game-changer Internet package in early October, despite widespread speculation that land-line provider Ogero will hold off on the release of needed bandwidth. The Daily Star has learned that at least two major private Internet service providers will implement an Internet decree passed last month, which reduces end-user DSL prices by 80 percent and raises speeds up to eight times. The release of the package has been scheduled for Oct. 1.Some of the ISPs that have not given assurances of implementing the package have said they are waiting on Ogero, which controls around 80 percent of Lebanon?s Internet cables, to release international capacity, said Firas Abi Nassif, a consultant at the Telecommunications Ministry.Ogero?s refusal to release international bandwidth, shuttled through a transcontinental cable known as IMEWE, creates major bottlenecks in the sector. However Abi Nassif said he expects any delay in Ogero?s compliance with the law to last ?only a few days.?Ogero, long considered the wild card of the telecommunications sector, has been embroiled in heated battles with the Telecommunications Ministry over at least three different ministry tenures.Deadlocks between the two bodies are viewed by most commentators to be politically motivated, with each controlled by opposing sides of Lebanon?s deep political divide, subsequently putting major roadblocks in plans for change in that notoriously ailing sector.Lebanese Internet is considered one of the slowest and most expensive in the world. It?s a situation that Internet users are hoping will change drastically next month with the DSL package and the official release of the 3G service, already in its pilot stage.Virtual ISP is a medium-sized provider that upgraded its Internet services in compliance with the decree almost immediately after the Cabinet announced its passing. It was a move, said technical manager Denys Fredoryshchenko, that was meant to push others to do the same. But now they wait eagerly for signs of life from Ogero.?It is not proper solution, what we are doing now, it is higher speed, but it is unstable and has high latency,? said Fredoryshchenko. ?With more bandwidth our customers can have completely new experience and much better service.?Another private ISP, Terranet, has been taking a similar route, pumping up bandwidth from its own cables networks in order to transfer the new package to consumers.Terranet is one of two major ISPs whose compliance with the Internet decree The Daily Star can confirm. IDM is the other.Still Terranet depends on Ogero cables for its pipe links to the network, which must be tapped into in case the network gets exhausted by heightened Internet traffic. It will also be reaching out to only part of its customer base. Some customers ? less than half ? subscribe to Terranet through Ogero?s network; these will not benefit from the package. But Terranet is optimistic that Ogero will follow through with the package. The group?s general manager Khaldoun Farhat estimates a more than 50 percent chance of Ogero?s compliance. There are two reasons that could explain Ogero?s behavior. The first has to do with technical problems that Ogero might be experiencing. The second is political; tech community members are speculating that Ogero has just been looking for a way to sabotage success achieved by the ministry.Abi Nassif said he suspects technical problems were unlikely, given Ogero?s large workforce. He also ruled out suspicions that Ogero lacked the infrastructure to supply the new bandwidth. He also downplayed political misbehavior, saying he was confident Ogero would not resort to violating the law.The Daily Star could not be reach Ogero for comment.Telecommunications Minister Nicolas Sehnaoui has hailed the new Internet package as a major leap forward for Lebanon.

Yemeni Defense Minister Mohammad Nasser Ahmad Ali survived an assassination attempt by a suicide bomber Tuesday in the southern port city of Aden. However, 10 of his entourage were hurt, a security official told AFP.

"A suicide bomber driving a car packed with explosives drove into the minister?s motorcade as he was driving out of a tunnel," the official noted. According to him, the assailant was killed.

The attack came as the minister was heading to a hotel in Aden where he has been staying on a duty visit to the south.

Click to download: Desert Island Discs, Baxter Dury and ThruYou

Castaway Chris Salmon loses himself in the BBC's vast Desert Island Discs archive

There was a splash of publicity earlier this year when it was revealed that the BBC was to create a full Desert Island Discs archive on its website. A few months on, it's proved to be one of the most addictive and worthwhile music-related sites on the web, despite its clunky url of bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/desert-island-discs. The fully searchable database of the choices of all 2,875 guests to have appeared since 1941 is a mine of pub quiz trivia. (The only guest to have picked a New Order song? Nigella Lawson.) Better still, there are 548 episodes (with music clips) available to download in full, for free ? of which 88 feature a musician as the castaway. Most of those ? including memorable appearances by Morrissey, John Cale, Neil Tennant, George Michael and Jarvis Cocker ? are also available directly from iTunes' podcast section. Spend half an hour browsing and downloading, and you need never be bored on public transport again.

With nine picks, Ian Dury is one of the most popular choices for Desert Island Discs castaways, but his son Baxter has yet to be chosen, despite having made three very decent solo albums. To help promote the latest one, the terrific Happy Soup, Dury's label recruited 10 students from London's Met Film School to make a music video for each track on the album, with Dury's favourite set to receive 1,000. The results, being posted throughout this week at thisisfakediy.co.uk, are well worth a look, with the best of those uploaded so far including the 50s detective pastiche for snappy opening track Isabel and the mix of animation and film for the downbeat Leak at the Disco. They, and even the less-inspired ones, certainly serve to highlight what a strong collection of songs Happy Soup is. Job done, then.

It's more than two years since Israeli musician Kutiman unleashed his astonishing ThruYou project (thru-you.com), in which he made songs by mashing together dozens of musical parts he found being played by (mainly amateur) musicians on YouTube. Now he's back with more ingenious editing. At the end of July, he uploaded a wonderful video of Led Zeppelin's Black Dog spliced together from more than 70 performances of the song found on YouTube (bit.ly/kutizep). Then, last week, he took a turn towards the political with This Is Real Democracy (bit.ly/kutireal), a frenetic, beat-driven track again sourced from YouTube musicians, but spliced with footage of politicians, demonstrations, riot police and burning cars. The video provides, as Kutiman puts it, "my reflection of what is going on around the world". It certainly offers a suitably intense snapshot of what 2011 has often looked like.

Fresh Meat keeps up the heat on Big Brother

Channel 4 comedy draws 1.2 million viewers against Channel 5 reality show's 1.27 million

Big Brother won the second week of its ratings battle with new Channel 4 comedy Fresh Meat ? but only just.

The Channel 5 reality show pulled in 1.27 million viewers, a 7.6% share of the audience, between 10pm and 11pm on Wednesday.

The second episode of university-set sitcom Fresh Meat, starring Jack Whitehall and Joe Thomas and written by Peep Show creators Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain, drew 1.2 million viewers, a 6.7% share, between 10pm and 10.55pm.

Fresh Meat's audience rose to 1.37 million when Channel 4+1 is included, down from a total audience of 1.69 million for last week's series opener.

Who does Richard Madeley think he is?

The former This Morning co-presenter's turn on BBC1's Who Do You Think You Are? attracted 4.3 million viewers, an 18.9% share between 9pm and 10pm.

ITV1's Live Uefa Champions League coverage of Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Valencia drew 3.9 million viewers (17.9%) between 7.30pm and 10pm, and an average of 4.2 million for live coverage of the match itself, which kicked off at 7.45pm.

Property continues to pay

Channel 4's long-running property pairing of Grand Designs and Location, Location, Location continues to pay the rent.

Location, Location, Location pulled in 2.6 million viewers, an 11.8% share, between 8pm and 9pm, while Grand Designs drew 3 million viewers (13%) between 9pm and 10pm.

Including Channel 4+1, the two programmes picked up 2.77 million and 3.4 million respectively.

They wiped the floor with BBC2's pairing of a Natural World repeat, which drew 1.42 million (6.5%) between 8pm and 9pm, and Dragons' Den spin-off How to Win in the Den, which could only manage 1.09 million viewers, 4.8% of the audience.

I'm sorry, but unless I see better overnight rating return on this investment, then I'm out.

Step on it

Sky Living's Steps Reunion, in which H and, er ... the rest of the band reflected on their success, proved a hit for the digital channel with 472,000 viewers between 9pm and 10pm, a 2.1% share of the audience and 133% up on the slot average for the past three months.

All ratings are Barb overnight figures, including live and same day timeshifted (recorded) viewing, but excluding on demand, +1 or other ? unless otherwise stated. Figures for BBC1, ITV1, Channel 4 and Channel 5 generally include ratings for their HD simulcast services, unless otherwise stated

Early season madness continues in NFL

Another dramatic day in the NFL was highlighted by surprise wins for the New York Giants, the Oakland Raiders and, in particular, the Buffalo Bills while the Detroit Lions secured their best start to a season in over 30 years.

The Philadelphia Eagles followed up last Sunday night’s bruising loss at Atlanta with a comprehensive defeat at home to their arch-rivals from across the New Jersey Turnpike as the New York Giants produced a surprisingly bullish display to win 29-16.

To make matters worse for the hotly tipped Eagles who now hold 1-2 record for the season, their star quarterback Michael Vick added a broken right hand (not his throwing hand) to last week’s concussion. And he blasted the league’s referees after the game.

"Looking at the replays, I'm on the ground every time, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't frustrated," Vick said. "The refs have got to do their jobs. And I mentioned it to the refs in training camp when I talked to them. I'm on the ground constantly, all the time. Every time I throw the ball, I'm on the ground. And I don't know why I don't get the 15-yard flags like everybody else does."

The other two sides in the NFC East play tonight with the Washington Redskins (2-0) heading for Arlington, Texas to take on the Dallas Cowboys (1-1).

The Giants, though, had nothing on what happened in upstate New York where the AFC East’s dominant force, the New England Patriots were beaten by the nation’s favourite team, the Buffalo Bills who hadn't won against the Pats in their last 15 attempts.

Rian Lindell hit a 28-yard field goal as time expired to round off an incredible Buffalo comeback with the Patriots stung by the 34-31 final score having led 21-0 in the second quarter. The celebrations were so intense that stadium officials took the decision to unscrew the goal posts after police received a tip-off that fans were planning to tear them down.

The unbeaten Bills were inspired once again by a Ryan Fitzpatrick-inspired rally which bore more than a passing resemblance to their 38-35 win over the Oakland Raiders last Sunday.

Indeed, the Raiders more than made up for that disappointment with a frenzied display against the New York Jets who couldn’t handle Darren McFadden's astonishing rushing performance, his 171 yards and two touchdowns ensuring a 34-24 victory in the Bay Area.

In the NFC North, the Detroit Lions (3-0) and the Green Bay Packers (3-0) lead the way after they both had wins over their divisional rivals.

The Minnesota Vikings had taken a 20-0 lead into half-time against the Lions but then collapsed as Matthew Stafford threw two touchdown passes in the second half to help Detroit get to overtime. They won the toss and capped their drive with Jason Hanson’s 32-yard field goal, escaping with a fortunate 26-23 victory.

The Chicago Bears had less to complain about as Aaron Rodgers and the Packers enjoyed an easygoing afternoon at Soldier Field. Rodgers threw for 297 yards, including three touchdown passes to Jermichael Finley, on the way to a 27-17 victory.

A high-scoring clash in New Orleans saw the Saints twice battle back from behind in the fourth quarter to beat the Houston Texans 40-33 while two of the Saints’ NFC South rivals met in Florida where the Atlanta Falcons’ surprisingly lacklustre start to the season continued as they lost 16-13 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Baltimore Ravens crushed the St Louis Rams 37-7 while a 17-16 victory for the Cleveland Browns piled on the misery for another winless side, the Miami Dolphins. In the late game, the Pittsburgh Steelers were made to work hard for a 23-20 win at the Indianapolis Colts.

The San Francisco 49ers lead the way in the NFC West courtesy of a late Kendall Hunter touchdown which secured a 13-8 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Birthday boy Matt Hasselbeck inspired a late Tennessee Titans rally as the Denver Broncos were beaten 17-14 in Nashville while the Carolina Panthers overcame torrential rain and the Jacksonville Jaguars, a 16-10 win their first of the season and the first of rookie quarterback Cam Newton’s professional career.

There were also wins for the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West and the San Diego Chargers in the AFC West.

Abbas asks U.N. to accept Palestine as full member

In a dramatic speech at the U.N., Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said he had asked the international body to admit the state of Palestine as a full member. Abbas said that he decided to request for UN membership of his state after Israel smashed all efforts to reach a peace through talks.

"All of these sincere efforts and endeavors undertaken by international parties were repeatedly smashed against the rocks of the positions of the Israeli government, which quickly dashed the hopes raised by the launch of negotiations last September," he said.

Original sin: did Sky steal the BBC's tagline? | Media Monkey

Doesn't Sky watch the Beeb? If so, it would have known not to use the slogan 'original British drama' in its latest trail

Monkey is intrigued by this Sky1 trail for its drama line-up. It kicks off with the words "original British drama". Which is er ... the tagline for the BBC's campaign, which began in April. All this begs the question: how original is Sky's "original British drama" trail?
