Police find body after searching for missing Thorntons worker

POLICE and mountain rescuers who were searching for a missing man have found a body in woods.

The man, who has not been named, had been reported missing by his wife when he failed to return home to Swanwick from work at Thorntons on Friday, April 8.

The body was found in Hardwick Park just before 8pm last night with the help of a mountain rescue search dog.

Police officers had been searching the ponds and other areas in the park for several days in an attempt to find the man.

The man's next of kin have been informed of his death but a formal identification has not yet taken place.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and police will be preparing a report for the coroner.

Derbyshire police have confirmed that the man was not a suspect in the investigation into the murder of Jia Ashton, of Somercotes.

Mrs Ashton, 25, who was also an employee at Thorntons, was murdered as she walked home on March 10.
