More help needed down on the farm

VOLUNTEERS are urgently needed at Stonebridge City Farm because the cafe and shop have been so busy recently.

Education officer Stephen Gee said: "We are running on an absolute minimum number of staff, especially at weekends, and we are becoming victims of our own success.

"It would only take one absence and half of our services would have to be closed to the public with a resulting loss of revenue, which we desperately need."

As well as volunteers to help with the day-to-day running of the farm, professional people with experience in accountancy, law, human resources and business are needed to work as volunteers or join the management committee.

There has been excitement at the farm recently as lots of chicks have been hatching, including the farm's first turkey chick hatched by a surrogate hen.

Anyone who would like to volunteer should call the farm on 0115 9505 113 and ask for Marian Donaldson.
