PLAYERS of the world's longest instrument, the alphorn, gathered in Nottingham yesterday.
They were attending the East Midlands Horn and Alphorn Festival at the University of Nottingham's Lakeside Arts Theatre.
The event was led by the UK's leading alphorn players, the Holcombe Duo and Frances Jones, and is believed to be the first alphorn gathering in the UK, attracting players from all over the country.
A day of activities for French horn and alphorn players included master classes, recitals, workshops and coached ensembles.
More than 100 amateur and student horn players booked to attend and, as well as leading alphorn players, hornists from some of the best UK orchestras starred in the recitals.
