POLICE have arrested two 13-year-old boys in connection with the stabbing of a man in St Ann's.
The 27-year-old victim, from St Ann's, was found in Stonebridge Road at about 11.15pm on Monday suffering from multiple stab wounds.
He was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre where he remained earlier today in a stable and improving condition.
A police spokesman said the two boys were arrested yesterday afternoon and were continuing todayto be questioned at an undisclosed police station.
Fingertip searches by police forensic teams were continuing last night inside a cordoned-off area in and around Stonebridge Road.
Detectives believe there were a number of people in and around Stonebridge Road at the time of the incident and they are appealing for them to come forward as they may have information vital to the investigation.
Speaking at the scene yesterday, Chief Inspector Linda McCarthy said: "We've had genuinely good feedback from the community and we've got a number of lines to follow. It's important that the people involved in this are identified.
"We do not know whether a large number of people were involved.
"We've been doing house-to-house enquiries and neighbourhood policing teams are doing reassurance patrols, and we are making contact with people leading community groups to keep them up to date.
"The good news is that crime in this area has plummeted, which is in line with the reductions across the whole force.
"This is an unusual occurrence."
Chief Inspector McCarthy urged local residents who had information that could help the investigation to contact police of Crimestoppers.
"If anyone has information, however small, it might be the last piece of the jigsaw that proves important."
Local residents have told how they were woken by shouting and the arrival of the police in the area shortly after the stabbing took place.
A woman from Paxton Gardens, who did not want to be named, said: "I got out of bed at about 12.15am. I heard lots of shouting and running up and down the road.
"I heard it was someone who was stabbed. There were a lot of police around here at about 5am and the police helicopter was here at about 6.30am for ages."
Another woman, who also did not want to be named, added: "We are living in fear."
A 40-year-old man from Ferrers Walk said: "There are always groups of gangs round here. My young son won't come out of the door."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Notts Police on 0300 300 9999 or Crimestoppers, anonymously and in confidence, on 0800 55511.
