THIEVES stole a motorised wheelchair belonging to a six-year-old who has lost a leg.
Matthew Frost loved the battery-powered wheelchair – which looks like a small red sports car with eyes on the front – and keeps asking his family where it is.
The chair, which cost 2,800, was stolen from the rear of his home in Benner Avenue, Ilkeston, between noon and 12.30pm on Wednesday.
Matthew's mother, Claire Frost, 32, said: "Matthew is getting on really well and we are very proud of him.
"He always has a smile on his face and is very independent. He doesn't let a lot bother him. Although he has a prosthetic leg, he gets on really well with that.
"It is just sick to think of the mentality of people who would take something like this."
Matthew has heart problems, which led to the amputation of his leg.
Two wrought iron gates and an incinerator were also stolen.
Two men were in the area asking people for scrap around the time of the incident. They are white and probably in their 20s, with short dark hair.
They were using a white flat-bed truck, possibly with two yellow poles standing up at the rear.
There was what looked liked a Halloween mask outside one of the cab windows. Matthew's father, Mark, thought there was fake blood on it.
Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0345 123 3333.
