The Arab League on Saturday officially asked the U.N. Security Council to impose a no-fly zone over Libya. This came after Arab foreign ministers held a meeting in Cairo.
Foreign ministers from 11 countries participated: Jordan, UAE, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt and Yemen, while the rest of the League members were represented by a lower level. Libya did not attend this meeting as the Arab League decided earlier this month to suspend its membership in a protest against the violence by the Libyan regime against the rebels.
