Lake County holds a 2-1 lead in the best of five series after beating Clinton on Saturday night.
Captains 7, LumberKings 3 The Captains defeated visiting Clinton, Iowa, on Saturday, putting themselves one win from the Midwest League Championship. Lake County will try to wrap things up today at 6:30 p.m. at Classic Park in Eastlake in Game 4 of the best-of five series.
Brett Brach anchored a stellar team effort in his third postseason start for his first win of the playoffs. He tossed 6 , scattering seven hits and allowing just one run. Brach struck out a career-high nine.
Coming off a heartbreaking defeat two nights ago and the series locked up at 1-1, the Captains took advantage of some first inning walks from LumberKings' starter Tom Wilhelmsen. Adam Abraham drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to right.
Lake County also had home runs in the second inning from Jason Smit and Greg Folgia to open up a 4-0 lead.
Tyler Holt's first home run as a Captain came in the bottom of the sixth. His two-run shot to left field put Lake County up, 7-1.
The Captains' bullpen stayed strong. Mike Rayl pitched 1 innings, giving up just two runs on one hit -- a two-run home run in the ninth. He finished with three strikeouts. Preston Guilmet got the final two outs to finish the win.
Clinton's Wilhelmsen took his first lost of the playoffs fiving up five runs on six hits, walking five and striking out four.
Lake County with a 2-1 lead in the best of five series will try and wrap up the Midwest League Championship in game four Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. at Classic Park.
Notes: Today, the Captains will start LHP Vidal Nuno (1-1). He will be matched up against RHP Talyor Stanton (0-1).
