Kinston takes 13-inning triumph over Salem: Minor-league report

Akron rally not enough against Manchester; Lake County falls in 11 innings; Scrappers nipped by Brooklyn; Crushers' 10-game win streak snapped by Evansville.

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Indians 9, Red Sox 7: Kinston scored two in the top of the 13th inning to win a Carolina League game in Salem, Va. The Indians' late rally appeared to stall when Jeremie Tice was picked off third, but a single by Doug Pickens loaded the bases and the K-Tribe scored runs on a wild pitch and Roberto Perez sacrifice fly. Kyle Landis (8-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the win.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers 11, Red Wings 7: Tim Fedroff drove in five runs with three hits and a bases-loaded walk and visiting Columbus used a six-run sixth inning to overcome an early deficit against Rochester. Third baseman Jared Goedert had five hits, drove in two runs and scored three times for the Clippers. Zach Putnam picked up his eighth save with two innings of shutout relief.

Mitch Talbot started for Columbus, but gave up six hits and six runs in two innings of work.

Notes: Rightfielder Jerad Head leads the Clippers with 22 home runs and 66 RBI. He's hitting .282. Right-hander Jeanmar Gomez leads the staff with a 10-5 record. He has a 2.45 ERA. He has started 19 games for the Clippers and turned in two complete games. Right-hander Josh Judy leads the team with 18 saves. He has struck out 55 batters in 44 innings and has a 3.63 ERA.

AA Akron Aeros

Fisher Cats 5, Aeros 3: Akron rallied for three runs in the top of the eighth inning but couldn't overcome a five-run deficit as they lost an Eastern League game at Manchester, N.H. Right-hander Austin Adams (9-9) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on nine hits in six innings.

Note: Akron was 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

A Lake County Captains

Dragons 2, Captains 1: Billy Hamilton scored all the way from first base when Drew Poulk singled and Luigi Rodriguez bobbled the ball in center field and host Dayton defeated Lake County in 11 innings in a Midwest League game. The Captains scored in the first inning when Ronny Rodriguez doubled in Luigi Rodriguez. Kyle Petter (2-3) pitched the final 2 innings for Lake County and took the loss.

Notes: Right-hander Clayton Ehlert leads the Captains' bullpen with 14 saves. He has a 1.62 ERA in 34 games. He has pitched 441/3 innings.

A Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Cyclones 2, Scrappers 1: A two-out single by second baseman Todd Hankins in the fourth inning was the only scoring that host Mahoning Valley could muster in a New York-Penn League loss to Brooklyn (N.Y.). Ramon Cespedes (0-1) was the loser. He gave up one run and two hits in two innings of relief.

Independent Lake Erie Crushers

Otters 12, Crushers 7: Lake County's franchise record 10-game winning streak was snapped with a loss in a Frontier League game in Evansville, Ind. The Otters pounded out 17 hits.
