Beau Mills' sacrifice fly lifts Columbus past Indianapolis: Minor-league report

McFarland solid in Akron loss; Lake County shut out by South Bend; Scrapper quartet four-hits Jamestown; Fagan hurls shutout in Lake Erie win.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers 4, Indians 3 (10): Designated hitter Beau Mills' sacrifice fly scored Jared Goedert in the bottom of the 10th inning for Columbus against Indianapolis in International League play Saturday night.

Goedert (.266) led off the 10th with a walk and advanced to third on a double by center fielder Jerad Head (.284). After Garrett Olson intentionally walked Nick Johnson (.201), Jared Hughes relieved and struck out right fielder Chad Huffman (.246) before Mills batted. Goedert and Head each had three hits. Goedert had two doubles and drove in three runs.

Columbus right-hander Paolo Espino (3.45 ERA) allowed one hit and struck out six in four innings, right-hander Zach Putnam (3.84) pitched two innings of scoreless relief and right-hander Chen Lee (4-0, 2.20) got the win after 11/3 scoreless innings.

AA Akron Aeros

Flying Squirrels 3, Aeros 2 (10): Left-hander T.J. McFarland (3.87) gave up two runs -- one earned -- in six innings for host Akron, but Wendell Fairley singled in Sharlon Schoop with the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th as Richmond (Va.) three-hit the Aeros in Eastern League play. Left fielder John Drennen (.231) and catcher Michel Hernandez (.333) each drove in a run for Akron.

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Indians vs. Hillcats, ppd.: The Carolina League game between host Kinston (N.C.) and visiting Lynchburg (Va.) was postponed due to Hurricane Irene.

A Lake County Captains

Silver Hawks 3, Captains 0: Right-handers Michael Bolsinger and Jeremy Erben combined on a three-hitter for host South Bend (Ind.) against Lake County in Midwest League play. Captains starting pitcher Danny Salazar (0-1, 4.50), a right-hander, lasted just two innings, allowing two runs -- one earned.

A Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Scrappers 4, Jammers 2: Four Mahoning Valley pitchers combined on a four-hitter as the Scrappers did not allow an earned run in a New York-Penn League victory over visiting Jamestown (N.Y.).

Left-hander Danny Jimenez (2.33) allowed two unearned runs in five innings. Right-hander Jack Wagoner (1-0, 0.00) got the win with two hitless innings in relief. After a scoreless eighth by right-hander Tony Dischler (4.91), right-hander Enosil Tejeda (3.30) gave up a hit and a walk but got through the ninth for his 11th save. Shortstop Tony Wolters (.300) and catcher Jake Lowery (.238) each had two hits and one run batted in.

Independent Lake Erie Crushers

Crushers 4, RiverHawks 0: Left-hander Paul Fagan (7-10) pitched a six-hitter, and Pat Norris hit his first homer of the season as host Lake Erie blanked Rockford (Ill.) in a Frontier League contest in Avon.
