UALM concludes Annual Conference, commends Australian, Lebanese Governments and Clergy

Melbourne, Australia:� On the weekend of October 15 and 16, the United Australian Lebanese Movement (UALM) held its Annual National Conference of 2011.The conference was attended by delegates from around the country (Sydney, Adelaide, Canberra, Brisbane and hosts Melbourne) and focused on the year in review, coordinating projects for stronger interstate planning and the strengthening of ties between Lebanon and Australia.�� The delegates also conducted workshops on implementing revised internal procedures and administrative reforms.Click here for PicturesThe conference also studied the work of Lebanon?s reformist Ministers and the projects they initiated such as the new electricity plan that will supply round the clock electricity, increased internet speeds whilst reducing telecommunications costs, in addition to the fields of health and agriculture.� In particular, the focus was on the proposed raising of Lebanon?s minimum wage, universal health care and the introduction of an ?Old Age Pension?.The UALM commended such work and hopes that the Government will focus on the desire of the Free Patriotic Movement led by former Prime Minister and Army Commander Michel Aoun MP, and subsequently the ?Change and Reform Bloc?, to eradicate the institutionalised corruption that resulted from most of the administrations who ran the country from 1992 to 2010.Whilst on the topic of the Middle East, the conference resolved to support the statements made by the heads of the major Churches in the Middle East, in addition to the positions of the Mufti of the Syrian Republic among many other Islamic figures who called on genuine co-existence, secularism, stability and a rejection of foreign interference by returning the populace to its Levantine roots.Also commended was the position of the Australian Government and the various MP?s from all sides of politics who took a strong position in relation to the recent Christian persecution in Egypt.The UALM hopes that the Australian Government, Political Parties and the Media continue to investigate the reality of the situation in the Middle East.The United Australian Lebanese MovementPress Office
