Insufficient evidence to charge Coronation Street actor, who was arrested in September on suspicion of sexual assault
Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell will face no action over child sex allegations, police have said.
The actor, who has played mechanic Kevin Webster in the ITV soap for 28 years, was arrested and interviewed in September over an allegation he sexually assaulted a young girl a number of years ago.
On Sunday police confirmed that after their investigation lawyers had decided there was not enough evidence to charge him.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester police said: "No further action will be taken against a 46-year-old male from Hale, arrested on suspicion of an historic sexual assault.
"A file of evidence was prepared for the Crown Prosecution Service, who decided there was insufficient evidence to charge."
Le Vell, from Hale, Cheshire, has two children. He strenuously denied the allegations and continued in his role on the TV show.
