Eight-run opening inning pays off for Clippers' starter Mitch Talbot: Minor-league report

Aeros score five in first to top Reading; two bad pitches cost Kyle Landis in Kinston loss; Dale Dickerson's HBP sinks Lake County; Mahoning Valley falls in 14 innings.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers 11, Bats 2: Columbus scored eight runs in the first inning and Mitch Talbot (3-2, 4.12) pitched seven solid innings as the Clippers won in Louisville (Ky.) Talbot fanned six. The Clippers batted around in the first with Jared Goedert hitting a single his first time up and a double the next. Ben Copeland tripled.

AA Akron Aeros

Aeros 6, Phillies 4: Juan Diaz hit a two-run triple in a five-run first inning and Akron went on to defeat Reading (Pa.) to start a four-game series at Canal Park. Matt Packer (8-12, 4.37) got the win for the Aeros.

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Hillcats 3, Indians 2: Kyle Landis (8-2, 2.14) allowed back-to-back homers in the seventh and Kinston fell in Lynchburg (Va.)

A Lake County Captains

Silver Hawks 2, Captains 1: South Bend (Ind.) won in the bottom of the ninth when Lake County's Dale Dickerson loaded the bases and then hit batter Roberto Ortiz to walk in the winning run.

A Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Crosscutters 4, Scrappers 3, Scrapper K.C. Serna homered in the ninth but Will Krasne walked in the winning run in the bottom of the 14th as Mahoning Valley fell in Williamsport (Pa.)

Independent Lake Erie Crushers

The Crushers were off Monday night.
