Over a thousand attend UALM Victoria Family Day BBQ

Melbourne, Australia: The United Australian Lebanese Movement (UALM) of Victoria held their annual BBQ on Sunday 4th December 2011 at Edwarde's Park Lake, an event that the community looks forward to every year.Tens of volunteers had been working in the weeks leading up to the event where food, drinks, entertainment and children?s activities were aplenty and despite the cold weather, over a thousand people attended throughout the day.� Click here for PicturesMC Robert Bekhazi welcomed everybody to the event which was also attended by a myriad of community groups, political parties and three mayors of Lebanese descent; Dianna Asmar, Tony Deeb and Michael Raffoul.Mayor of the City of Darebin Diana Asmar officially opened the event and spoke of the UALM with high regard praising the continuous efforts to serve the community and build the reputation of the Lebanese in Australia. Mayor Asmar pledged to always stand by the side of the UALM in its efforts.Victorian President Nouhad Chahda welcomed all, and delivered the official message of the UALM, he spoke about the Free Patriotic Movement?s (FPM) efforts to improve the lives of the people of Lebanon in addition to the regional situation of the Middle East.Attendees were also in for a pleasant surprise as they were addressed by the leader of the Free Patriotic Movement and Change & Reform Parliamentary Bloc in Lebanon, General Michel Aoun.� The Former Prime Minister, Army Commander and current MP in Lebanon?s Parliament gave the official message for the event, spoke of the regional situation and assured all that Lebanon was safe despite all difficulties and foreign interference the Levant and greater Middle East were facing.Entertainment included performances by musicians and singers while children were entertained by rides and face painting. Al Zaghloul Antoine Barsouna received great applause for his Zajal poetry recitals praising General Aoun and the FPM.The success was also measured by not only by the turnout of the crowds but also with the festivities continuing well into the evening.The UALM look forward to a prosperous year ahead where a genuine effort for peace is a priority and wish you and your Families a Happy and Safe Festive Season.
